Iran FM lambasts Western support for Israeli regime's crimes

TEHRAN, Jan. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has told his French counterpart that one cannot worry about the security of the Red Sea while allowing Israel to commit crimes against Palestinians.

Amir-Abdollahian made the comments on Saturday night in a phone conversation with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna who condemned the terrorist attacks that left dozens of people dead in Iran’s southeastern city of Kerman on Wednesday.

“Iran is the sincerest supporter of security and stability in the region and the world,” the top Iranian diplomat said, stressing the need for efforts by the international community to effectively and practically confront all forms of terrorism.

The two ministers also discussed the Gaza war and the security of the Red Sea in the wake of attacks Yemen has recently conducted against Israeli-linked ships in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The security of Gaza, the West Bank and the region are intertwined and war is not a solution, Amir-Abdollahian said, adding that the only way to prevent the spread of fighting and establish lasting peace is to consider the root causes of crises and be resolute to resolve them.

"One cannot be worried about the security of the Red Sea and the region without looking into occupation as well as other route causes of instability," he noted, adding that a stop to the Israeli-American genocide in Gaza and preventing the forced displacement of its residents coupled with allowing Palestinians to decide their future are effective steps to bring an end to the violence in the region.

The French foreign minister, for her part, expressed concern over the escalation of tensions in the region, and called on Iran to play a role in preventing the spillover of those tensions.

In the phone conversation, the two sides agreed on the importance of continuing diplomatic talks and contacts between foreign ministers, and emphasized the need to remove existing obstacles in the path of relations in an atmosphere based on mutual respect.
